Social Media is the largest social experiment. PERIOD. Every day billions of posts, photos, and videos are shared and consumed leveraging human behavior along the way. In this short-form event, Ryan O'Donnell, MS, BCBA breaks down how social media platforms work, discusses the ethical implications and navigating them and provides a model for how to ideate and create meaningful content that achieves your professional goals. Case examples and strategies are included for each platform with an emphasis on storytelling, preaching to the choir (vs outreach and dissemination), A/B testing, and the future of social media on a decentralized platform. As a result, you will be positioned to leverage social media for your professional and personal goals as a behavior analyst (BCBA®, BCaBA®) - or at least know everything RyanO has learned leveraging social media as a Behavior Analyst.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and describe what a social media platform is and how they are generally structured to disseminate information.
  2. Identify current considerations and best practices for marketing behavior analytic content ethically on social media.
  3. Identify storytelling techniques that can be included in any form of media to transform your information into something that is emotionally engaging and fits marketing best practices.

About the Presenter

Ryan O'Donnell
Hey, I'm Ryan. I usually go by Ryan O or RYANO. I’m a digital nomad that hails from northern Nevada in the grungy, yet surprisingly classy, and newly renovated city of Reno. I wake up daily trying to fill the gap between this amazing science of behavior and the billions of people that it could impact for the better. I do this by creating content for behavioral science enthusiasts via storytelling and videography. I am a master of science; that is, I have an M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis, however, my interests have grown to include many other areas, from entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, reinforcement learning, social media, podcasting, and vlogging. These interests and skills have allowed me to work with a lot of great people, travel the world a bit, and share it with the world at large. I've started three businesses, numerous joint venture agreements, a behavioral think-tank, two podcasts, a professional development movement, and helped organizations that support people with various disabilities. I focus outside this role on building a community of thought leaders and doers to create content that increases the transparency of behavior analytic technologies with the hopes of creating a platform that truly saves the world. In my spare time you can find me consuming social media, prepping/climbing a giant mountain, or walking around with my camera in my hand (and, occasionally, all simultaneously). Connect with me personally on most all social platforms via @TheDailyBA and let me know what drives you to pursue the Behavior Analysis vision.

Great CEU outside of the typical repetitive topics that have been covered for years. It was relevant and acknowledges the constant change we are having to adapt to within our field and across cultures at large.

This presentation was very thought-provoking and inspiring for me, both creatively and ethically. I especially enjoyed the short videos that were incorporated throughout. It will be interesting to watch how things evolve with social media overtime, and hopefully the ethical codes will be adjusted in a timely manner to allow people to share their personal stories if they want to help. Thank you for a great presentation!

Danielle

Excellent presentation on an important topic that I didn't know anything about.

As a behavior analyst that has been posting on Tik Tok 7 and has grown a large following on more than one channel(not in BA), I have been completely dialed into BA, content creation and stimulus control and the reasons that content goes "viral" or becomes sharable to increase brand awareness and visibility. I loved everything about this training for sure. .. I will be revisting this presentation and diving into the YT channel/ other content for sure. Thank you...

I am a content creator in the fantasy football space as well as a BCBA, so I have considered dipping my toe in the ABA creator space and this CEU was a great tool in helping how I think about ABA in social media/content space.

I'm not sure, but this may be the best training, certainly the best online training, I have attended this year (2022) or maybe ever (Greg Hanley excepted). It is quite clear that it was put together by a person completely familiar with the topic he's discussing, as it's the best use of various digital tools I've seen. It also addresses the bigger topic of ways to disseminate ABA across audiences, not just on social media. Thoroughly satisfied that I purchased this seminar, and kind of glad I had to due to the imminence of my re-certification period ending.
