Effective supervision is critical for the development of trainee skill sets, yet many supervisors lack explicit training in delivering feedback and facilitating collaborative problem-solving.
Deficits in these skills may negatively impact both trainee progress and the overall quality of the supervisory relationship. In this webinar, participants will explore the essentials of providing effective feedback and addressing common supervision challenges through collaborative problem-solving. Through the use of practical, evidence-based tools, supervisors will learn to lay the foundation for strong, supportive relationships that promote trainee success, professional growth, and a mutually rewarding supervision experience.Participants in this webinar will learn to:
- Use practical and effective bi-directional feedback strategies to enhance trainee skill development
- Foster a relationship that encourages open communication and constructive and collaborative problem-solving
- Engage in self-reflection to assess personal supervisory practices and develop a plan for ongoing professional development in feedback and problem-solving skills.
About the Presenter
My first job in Behavior Analysis was in 1974 as a Psychology Technician at a large state hospital. Along the way I earned my MA & PhD in psychology. I’m a LP and a BCBA. I worked in many other settings including MHC’s and private practices. I was thrilled to see Steven Hayes help the field move to a Third Wave (ACT) primary in MH; but now I see the entire field moving toward development of interpersonal skills in all of our service areas, including OM, MH, IDD, etc. This is a good example of how we can apply this new perspective to Supervision creating more aware, creative, and effective Behavior Analysts.
I think the content was rudimentary. I did like the components of feedback section toward the beginning, but the remainder of the training was dry. I think more examples of specific situations (BIP or programming implementation, specific behavior from staff, unethical behavior, etc.) that would warrant feedback from a supervisor and how to engage in those discussions could be very helpful.
