This presentation is designed to inform behavior analysis of what to expect when providing services in the school setting. The role of the BCBA in a school setting can look much different than that of a clinical setting due to the very nature of providing services in a natural environment vs. a control environment. Although the idea of not having a billable hour requirement, finishing the work day by late afternoon, and having summers off may sound very appealing, BCBAs often find themselves facing dilemmas due to not understanding the nuances involved in this setting. Throughout this training, you will learn how schools work, why barriers exist and how to overcome them (or work around them), special education processes that impact service delivery (including special education law), why teachers may not be able to do what you are asking, and how to better tailor interventions for the classroom environment.
3 Learning Objectives
- Identify barriers to providing BCBA services in the school setting.
- Understand the basics of IDEA as it relates to FAPE & LRE and how this may impact services.
- Describe ethical implications that BCBAs may face in the school setting and how to overcome them.
